The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including the biological son of an alleged kidnapping victim, in connection with the reported abduction of a father in Malabu community of Fufore Local Government Area.

According to a police statement, the arrests followed a coordinated operation conducted by officers of the Nigeria Police Force alongside members of the traditional security group Miyetti Allah. The raid targeted a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Jera village, where the suspects were apprehended on Monday morning.

Suspects Apprehended

The police identified the three suspects as:

  • Da’u Alhaji Ahmadu (28) — alleged to be the biological son of the abducted man
  • Lawali Haruna (45) — resident of Jera village
  • Yahaya Ibrahim (25) — also from Jera village

Police said all three suspects confessed during interrogation to involvement in the abduction plot.

Background of the Abduction

The victim, identified as Alhaji Ahmadu, was reportedly abducted in Malabu on 30 January 2026 under unclear circumstances. Following the incident, the Adamawa State Police Command intensified intelligence-led investigations in collaboration with local vigilantes and community security networks.

In his statement, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed that the arrests were the outcome of sustained operations designed to crack down on kidnapping and related violent crimes in the state.

Police Crackdown on Kidnapping

The operation forms part of broader efforts by security agencies in Adamawa to address the rising spate of kidnappings across the state — a trend that has alarmed communities and authorities alike in recent months. Police have vowed to pursue all leads and dismantle criminal networks involved in abductions and ransom-related activities.

Authorities say the arrest also underscores improved collaboration between conventional law enforcement and local community groups, which has enhanced information sharing and operational reach into remote settlements.

Ongoing Rescue Efforts

While the suspects have been taken into custody, police said efforts are still ongoing to locate and free the abducted father. Officials declined to disclose details about ransom demands or the current condition of the victim, but reaffirmed that the command would intensify efforts until his safe recovery.

Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris directed that the suspects be processed for prosecution in line with Nigerian criminal law, while ensuring that other members of the alleged kidnapping syndicate are also apprehended.

Community Reaction

Residents of Malabu and neighboring communities welcomed the arrests, describing them as a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the region. Community leaders urged police to sustain intelligence-based operations to prevent similar crimes.

Local security analysts noted that involving community security networks in investigative operations has been a “game-changer” in penetrating criminal hideouts and gathering actionable intelligence for police action.
