The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that Abdul Halim Khan, 54, of Old Forde Road, London, has been convicted of 21 serious sexual offences, including nine counts of rape.
According to police, Khan abused his position as a respected religious figure within his community over an 11-year period between 2004 and 2015. Investigators said he falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers, which he allegedly used to manipulate and coerce young girls — some as young as 12 — into sexual acts.
Officers stated that he intimidated victims by threatening harm to their families in order to silence them and prolong the abuse.
Charges and Conviction
Khan was found guilty of:
- Nine counts of rape
- Four counts of sexual assault
- Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
- Five counts of rape of a child under 13
- One count of assault by penetration
He has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, scheduled for Thursday, 14 May.
Police Reaction
Detective Sergeant Sara Yems, who led the investigation, commended the bravery of the survivors who came forward.
“It takes remarkable strength to report abuse, particularly when the offender is perceived as a trusted figure,” she said. “The seven women who spoke to police have shown extraordinary courage. I hope their actions encourage other victims and survivors to seek support and justice.”
Authorities emphasised their commitment to holding offenders accountable, regardless of their standing within the community.
