In a surprising political development just less than 72 hours before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, has formally stepped down and thrown his support behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Hon. Joshua Ishaku Musa, local media reports say.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Bwari, where Adamu addressed party supporters and residents explaining that his decision followed intense consultations with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who was present at the event. Adamu described the move as one rooted in unity and local solidarity urging his supporters to back Musa’s bid for the chairmanship.

Addressing the crowd Adamu said he and Musa are “brothers” and that it would not be “nice for two brothers to kill themselves over one business” in the final days before the February 21 polls. He called on his supporters to rally behind the APC candidate to ensure victory at the polls.

Minister Wike also spoke at the event encouraging residents of Bwari Area Council to support Musa promising that a vote for the APC candidate would bring development to the community including infrastructure improvements.

The Bwari contest is one of six races in the FCT Area Council elections with chairmen and councillors set to be elected across the territory this weekend. The unexpected shift by the PDP candidate has reshaped the political dynamics in Bwari and could influence voter behaviour ahead of Saturday’s polls.
