The Federal Government has strengthened its drive to empower young Nigerians by launching a programme that distributes solar‑powered electric tricycles to youths and vulnerable groups as part of efforts to boost entrepreneurship and green innovation across the country. Officials from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development said the initiative aligns with national priorities to expand economic opportunities and support renewable‑energy adoption.

The solar‑powered tricycles were received in Abuja on Wednesday in collaboration with House of Destiny and the National Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (NATOMORAS). Ministry representatives described the partnership as key to creating sustainable livelihoods for young people by providing them with tools that can generate income while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Dr Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, Permanent Secretary of the Youth Ministry, said the initiative goes beyond transportation, noting that the tricycles are “instruments of employment dignity and self‑reliance” for beneficiaries. She stressed that empowering youth with practical assets will improve economic inclusion and help address unemployment challenges facing many communities in the country.

Organisers confirmed that 74 solar‑powered units have already been distributed across several states with 20 units delivered in Yobe State, part of efforts to scale the programme nationwide. Officials said the scheme encourages participants to innovate and adapt existing products while developing local solutions suited to Nigeria’s environment.

The Federal Government affirmed that the initiative supports the Renewed Hope Agenda, an economic policy framework that places youth empowerment and green economy development at the centre of national growth strategies. Authorities said similar collaborations and follow‑up interventions will be pursued to expand renewable energy use and widen access to economic opportunities for young Nigerians.
