Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa has praised Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for providing critical security support to troops operating in the state saying the governor’s actions show commitment to protecting lives and property amid prolonged insecurity. Musa’s commendation came during the official commissioning of armoured personnel carriers and advanced surveillance equipment handed over to military units in Zamfara on Wednesday.

At a ceremony held at the Government House in Gusau, Lawal distributed 25 highly sophisticated armoured personnel carriers (APCs) along with an aerial surveillance drone system to military and other security formations deployed in the state. The equipment is meant to enhance the operational capacity of troops combating banditry and criminal gangs across remote and volatile communities.

General Musa commended Lawal’s decision to procure the armoured vehicles pointing out that such support is vital for safeguarding soldiers while they undertake high‑risk missions. He noted that protection of lives and property goes beyond party politics and that Lawal’s actions set a strong example for others in subnational leadership positions. “The protection of lives and properties rises above party lines political affiliations and differences and that is why I am particularly very happy to be here,” Musa said during his remarks.

The defence minister also highlighted that the integration of aerial drones with ground vehicles will improve surveillance and intelligence gathering across vast terrain enabling quicker responses to security threats and better coordination between command centres and field operatives. He added that terrorists and criminal elements should take note of the strengthened security architecture in the state as a sign of unified resolve against insecurity.

Governor Lawal said the procurement demonstrates his administration’s proactive approach to addressing insecurity and supports the ongoing collaboration with federal troops and other security agencies deployed in the region. Officials and community leaders who attended the event described the donation as a significant boost to efforts to restore peace and protect citizens in Zamfara.
