Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has named popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as his Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy, the state government announced on Thursday. The move is part of efforts to deepen communication between the administration and residents and strengthen citizens’ involvement in governance.

The appointment was revealed in a statement by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, who said the governor approved the selection of Johnson-Okojie to help promote public awareness of government policies and programmes. Her role, the statement said, will involve enhancing dialogue with communities and boosting advocacy initiatives across Edo State.

A well-known figure in Nigeria’s film industry, Johnson-Okojie has built a career spanning nearly two decades with over 200 film credits and several recognitions at major award platforms including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. The statement highlighted her influence and wide public appeal as major assets for her new advisory role.

Beyond entertainment, she is respected for her humanitarian work through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment child welfare education and healthcare outreach. Officials said this background will help her promote social responsibility and civic awareness as part of the governor’s agenda.
