Abuja Nigeria – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the recently concluded Area Council elections in the FCT revealed the “hypocrisy” of some political actors who use corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers as campaign gimmicks to mislead voters, officials and media outlets report.

In a special broadcast on Sunday evening, Wike described the peaceful nature of the polls as a demonstration of residents’ commitment to democracy and good governance. He said the election results clearly distinguished genuine political players from those who rely on superficial gestures and populist tactics rather than substantive policies to win support.

“This election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnut from roadside sellers for the purpose of campaign just to deceive Nigerians,” Wike stated, adding that residents of the FCT showed they “cannot be deceived by emergency democrats who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.”

Wike commended voters for coming out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional rights and urged elected leaders to serve with humility dedication and commitment to excellence. He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as a free fair and credible election and applauded security agencies for maintaining peace during the voting period.

The minister credited the outcome of the polls to the leadership vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the exercise reaffirmed public confidence in the democratic process under the current administration.
