The Osun State House of Assembly on Monday passed a bill to amend some sections of the state’s local government law, lawmakers say. The legislation was approved after its third reading during plenary at the Assembly complex in Osogbo the state capital.
The bill, titled “Osun State Local Government Amendment No. 2 Bill 2026”, aims to revise select provisions of the Osun State Local Government Law, Cap 72, Vol. IV, Laws of Osun State 2002 along with related matters to reflect current governance needs and strengthen local government administration in the state.
During the session the Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Public Accounts, Lawal Bamidele, presented the committee’s report on the bill which included proposed changes and recommendations for its passage. Speaker Adewale Egbedun asked members to adopt the committee’s report while Majority Leader Babajide Adewumi moved the motion for its approval. After debate lawmakers approved both the report and the full bill.
Following its passage the Speaker said clean copies of the bill will be forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his assent, a key step before the changes can become law. The Assembly adjourned its sitting until March 2, 2026.
State legislators said the amendments reflect efforts to update local government operations and improve service delivery at the grassroots level in Osun.
