The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and the Obidient Movement have publicly rejected the results of the February 21 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, saying the outcome does not reflect the will of the electorate and urging authorities to address alleged irregularities, observers and statements show.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the ADC candidate Dr. Moses Paul condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcement that Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the AMAC chairmanship election. Paul alleged glaring irregularities including voter suppression result manipulation and intimidation of party agents, which he said skewed the outcome and undermined public confidence in the process. He argued that curfew orders and late arrival of election materials in key units also contributed to low turnout and compromised the legitimacy of the declared results.

Paul maintained that his campaign engaged voters extensively and insisted that the declared figures did not represent the true will of Abuja residents. “Our movement was never built on the fragile foundation of titles,” he said, adding that supporters endured pressure during the exercise and that their efforts contributed to a civic awakening regardless of the result.

Joining the rejection, the Obidient Movement Worldwide, led by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, described the AMAC election result as a “brazen assault on the very foundations of our democracy” and accused the process of widespread voter suppression and violence. The group said some ADC party agents were allegedly harassed and intimidated, and said one agent was killed while resisting an attempt to hijack ballot boxes at a polling unit. The movement called for a comprehensive review of the election and demanded that security agencies arrest those responsible for violence and irregularities.

The Obidient Movement also criticised INEC for dividing polling units without adequate public notice, making it difficult for many voters to locate their assigned centres, which it said contributed to disappointing turnout. The group claimed that the declared victory for the APC candidate was achieved through intimidation and manipulation rather than the true vote of the people.

Both the ADC candidate and the Obidient Movement have called on INEC to address their allegations, rescind the declared results and conduct fresh polls that reflect the electorate’s mandate. As of this report INEC has not issued a response to these claims.
