The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of plenary sessions that were originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026, and set a new date of Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., the legislature announced in a statement issued on Monday.
The decision was conveyed in a circular signed by Kamoru Ogunlana, the Clerk to the National Assembly, who said the postponement is intended to allow parliamentary committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing defence sessions on the 2026 Appropriation Bill involving ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and government parastatals.
Ogunlana noted that both chambers – the Senate and the House of Representatives – had earlier adjourned plenary to enable lawmakers to focus on detailed budget scrutiny at committee level. He asked distinguished senators and members of the House to take note of the revised schedule and made clear that the leadership regrets any inconvenience the postponement may cause.
The shift comes as lawmakers work to complete the budget defence process ahead of further legislative business, with critical budget debates still underway across multiple committees. The move underscores the Assembly’s emphasis on thorough oversight and due diligence before resuming full plenary activity.
