The Anambra State Government has ordered the closure of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market at Nkwo Nnewi for one week after traders failed to obey Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to open for business on Mondays, a statement from the state said.

The closure, which took effect at midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, is the result of low compliance with the governor’s earlier order ending the weekly Monday sit‑at‑home practice that had seen markets remain shut on that day. The announcement was made by Chief Evarist Uba, the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, on behalf of the governor, the statement added.

In a press release signed by Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information, the government advised traders and customers to stay away from the market until it reopens on Monday, March 2, 2026, to avoid confrontations with law enforcement agents enforcing the closure. The notice said the market could face further shutdowns if traders again fail to show substantial compliance when it returns to business.

The move comes just weeks after Soludo took similar action against Onitsha Main Market, which was closed to reinforce the state’s stance against the sit‑at‑home order that had disrupted commercial activities across the region. Government officials say the directive to open markets on Mondays is intended to restore economic activity and normalcy throughout the state.
