The Ogun State Police Command has released social media personality Abigeal Nsikak, better known as Mirabel on TikTok, to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for her welfare and support as investigations into her widely shared rape claim continue, police say in an official statement.

Mirabel voluntarily presented herself at a police station in connection with the allegation that sparked national attention after she posted emotional videos on TikTok recounting an alleged home invasion and sexual assault at her residence in Ogijo earlier this month. The allegation quickly went viral and drew widespread reaction online.

After her arrival at the station, officers took her to a medical facility for a comprehensive examination as part of the investigation, the police said. She has been cooperating with investigators, according to the update.

“We have released her to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in consideration of her welfare and support needs,” DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in the statement. The ministry has assumed responsibility for her care and has assured the command she will be made available whenever required as the inquiry continues.

The police emphasised that the case is being handled with professionalism sensitivity and thoroughness and cautioned the public against speculation as the legal process unfolds.

Mirabel’s video initially sparked a nationwide conversation on sexual violence and survivor protection, with both support and scrutiny emerging after her account gained traction. Some observers have raised questions about alleged inconsistencies in her story while the inquiry is ongoing.
