Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has formally bowed out of service after reaching the mandatory retirement age and completing his tenure, national news reports confirm.
Dr Audi marked his final day in office on Friday February 27, 2026, coinciding with the observance of World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja. The retirement ceremony highlighted his leadership and years of service to the paramilitary agency.
Appointed by late President Muhammadu Buhari on March 1, 2021, Dr Audi has served as the head of the NSCDC for five years, steering the corps through key reforms to strengthen civil defence operations, critical national infrastructure protection and coordinated disaster response across Nigeria.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Nasarawa State, Dr Audi holds a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University Keffi, a Master’s degree in Public Business Administration from the University of Calabar and is also a member of the National Institute (mni), credentials that have shaped his approach to leadership and organisational development in the corps.
Under his tenure, the NSCDC expanded its operational focus and emphasized professionalism, unity and enhanced collaboration with other security agencies to better protect lives and property, especially in areas prone to vandalism, pipeline theft and other threats to national assets.
As of now the Federal Government has not officially announced Dr Audi’s successor, although several senior officers within the corps are being considered for the role.
Dr Audi’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for the NSCDC and opens a transition period as the service prepares for the next leadership to build on the foundations laid during his period in command.
