President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term, the State House announced in a statement on Friday February 28, 2026.
Dr Audi’s reappointment took effect from Friday February 27, 2026, immediately following the end of his initial tenure, during which he led the paramilitary agency through a range of security operations and institutional reforms. His first term began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari and concluded last week as he participated in events marking World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
The presidency said Dr Audi will resume active duty on Monday with a renewed mandate to reposition the Corps and strengthen its contribution to national security. In his directive, President Tinubu tasked the NSCDC Commandant-General with enhancing the agency’s operational capacity to support broader efforts to protect citizens and critical national assets, particularly as other security agencies refocus on tackling banditry, kidnapping and terrorism nationwide.
Dr Audi joined the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer, progressing through the ranks over the years. He has served in various capacities including Divisional Officer and Commandant roles in state commands before being appointed Commandant-General and later expanded the Corps’ reach and impact under his leadership.
His academic background includes a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University Keffi, a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Calabar and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
The reappointment underscores the federal government’s confidence in Dr Audi’s leadership and reflects a commitment to bolstering internal security through strengthened civil defence capabilities.
