The Ogun State Government has approved and awarded a ₦6,118,098,154.70 contract for the construction of a new Court of Appeal complex in Abeokuta, state officials said on Friday February 27, 2026.

The approval was made during a State Executive Council meeting in Abeokuta and was announced by Mr Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. The project will be built on a 2.6-hectare parcel of land adjacent to the State Judiciary Complex in Olipakala Village via Kobape, along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in the judiciary cluster of the city.

Officials said the development comes as part of government efforts to deepen access to justice by bringing appellate adjudication closer to litigants in Ogun State and its environs. Currently, many appeal cases from the state are heard at the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal, which has imposed additional financial and time burdens on lawyers and their clients.

In preparation for the new division, the Ogun State Government had earlier completed six duplexes on land in Ibara Housing GRA to accommodate justices of the Court of Appeal as well as allocated 20 bungalows at Prince Court Estate in Kobape to house support staff for the complex.

The President of the Court of Appeal approved the establishment of the Abeokuta Division in 2025 after a special sitting in May 2024 during which around 150 appeals were disposed of within three days. The new complex is expected to support the smooth take-off of the Abeokuta Division once construction is completed.

Construction is expected to take about 12 months from commencement, with officials saying the project will strengthen the judicial infrastructure of Ogun State and ensure faster handling of appeals for residents and legal practitioners in the region.
