The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Region, has announced a scheduled outage on the Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line to allow ongoing restringing works at the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation, according to an official statement.
The outage began on Friday February 27, 2026 and is expected to continue daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until Tuesday March 31, 2026, TCN said in a notice signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs, Benin Region. The exercise is designed to enable contractors to safely carry out the restringing works on the transmission line connected to the Ihovbor Power Plant.
TCN explained that Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in areas including UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba and Ihovbor for up to 10 hours daily during the maintenance period. Power will be restored after 6:00 p.m. each day until the exercise is completed.
The company said the temporary outage is necessary because the transmission line crosses major highways along the Benin–Ajaokuta corridor, and safety precautions require bulk supply to be switched off while work is in progress. Relevant road safety agencies have been notified and will assist in ensuring public safety during the project.
TCN apologised for any inconvenience the outages may cause affected electricity consumers and assured that full bulk power supply will be restored to the distribution network once the restringing programme is completed.
