Chief Olabode George, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy National Chairman of the party, has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that widespread hardship in Nigeria could lead to a dramatic shift in the political landscape at the 2027 general election. George made the remarks on Friday at an event in Lagos, where he inaugurated the state’s newly elected PDP executive committee.

George told supporters and party members that many Nigerians are struggling with hunger and economic hardship and that these conditions could translate into political consequences. He said that if the ruling party expects business as usual in two years, it could be surprised by how citizens respond at the ballot box. “Nigerians are angry and hungry because of anti-people policies,” George said and warned that voters could “shock” political leaders in 2027.

At the gathering, George also criticised internal practices in the APC and alleged that elements within the party were using pressure and intimidation to weaken opposition parties. He called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold fairness and warned against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process ahead of the next election.

George described the PDP as a revitalised force with a strong national reach and urged defectors to return to the party. He said the opposition must remain united and focused in order to challenge what he called anti-democratic tendencies in the ruling party.

His comments come amid rising public frustration with economic conditions, including inflation and unemployment, which many analysts say are key concerns for voters. Observers note that how political parties address these issues could shape voter behaviour and turnout in the 2027 elections.
