The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has warned that flights to and from Middle East destinations are facing disruptions following airspace closures in parts of the region triggered by military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran, aviation sources report.

In a statement issued on Saturday February 28, 2026, FAAN said the ongoing airspace closures in the Gulf and neighbouring countries are currently affecting flight operations to and from Nigerian airports. As a result, scheduled services by carriers such as Emirates and Qatar Airways have been cancelled or delayed, the agency said.

The announcement advised affected passengers to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest information on flight status rebooking options and other travel guidance, adding that FAAN is monitoring the situation with relevant aviation authorities and airline operators while providing updates as they become available.

The disruptions stem from a series of airspace closures across the Middle East following military action against Iran that prompted several countries including Qatar the United Arab Emirates Iraq Kuwait and others to restrict or shut their skies as a safety precaution. The move has forced many international carriers to halt flights reroute aircraft or suspend operations temporarily as they avoid conflict zones.

FAAN said it regrets the inconvenience caused to the travelling public and urged passengers to stay updated through official airline and airport channels for further developments as the security situation evolves.
