The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a female officer and to provide support for her family, following a tragic accident during a tactical simulation exercise at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja, security sources say.
The officer, identified in official briefings as Assistant Superintendent of Corps Ogbodo Ene Victoria, died after being crushed by an operational vehicle while taking part in a simulation drill on the parade ground. The incident occurred on Saturday February 29, 2026 during a display organised as part of activities related to World Civil Defence Day.
In a statement, the NSCDC Commandant-General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi expressed deep shock and regret over the loss and described the incident as “heart-rending for the Corps family”. He said senior officers have already been dispatched to the officer’s home to offer condolences and to stand with her loved ones during this difficult time.
The Corps also said it will conduct a full and transparent investigation into the tragic accident to determine exactly what happened and to ensure accountability where necessary. The aim of the inquiry is to prevent similar incidents in future training exercises and to uphold safety standards for personnel.
Officials highlighted that arrangements are underway for a befitting burial service for the deceased and that the NSCDC leadership will extend necessary support to her family including welfare assistance as part of the organisation’s commitment to taking care of its personnel’s dependants.
The Corps has urged its members to remain vigilant in safety protocols during training events and pledged to review standard operating procedures to minimise risks while carrying out simulation and tactical drills.
The tragic death has prompted condolences from colleagues, friends and well-wishers across the security community as the investigation and mourning continue.
