Dangote Petroleum Refinery Plc has adjusted its petrol pricing, increasing the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to about ₦875 per litre at many filling stations across major Nigerian cities, industry sources say.
Recent checks by market observers indicate that the retail cost of petrol now ranges up to around ₦875 per litre, depending on the location and petrol station operator. The price shift follows earlier adjustments in the ex-depot price at the Dangote refinery, reflecting ongoing volatility in global crude oil prices and logistical cost pressures in the domestic market.
Energy analysts say the increase may be partly driven by higher crude costs and operational expenses for refining and distribution, as well as recent geopolitical risks that have affected global oil markets. Reports from major cities show petrol prices vary, with some retailers already selling at rates near the new figure, while others may adjust soon.
The refinery’s price changes are keenly watched by motorists and transport operators, who say a rise in petrol costs adds to the burden of rising transport fares and business expenses. Some consumers have expressed concern that sustained high prices could put additional pressure on household budgets.
Last month analysts warned that volatile crude oil markets due to international tensions may push Nigerian fuel prices even higher, especially if global benchmarks continue to climb or supply chain disruptions persist.
Refinery officials have not publicly released a statement explaining the recent price move, but stakeholders say retailers typically align their pump prices with the refinery’s ex-depot adjustments to maintain margins and cover costs.
