The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 of its staff members nationwide, with 45 officers elevated to director level, the commission announced in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday March 3, 2026.

The promotion exercise was part of INEC’s annual 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise and was authorised at a commission meeting held on February 26, 2026, according to the Director of Voter Education and Publicity Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi.

Of the 45 newly promoted directors, 18 will continue active service while 27 are set for retirement shortly after their elevation, reflecting adherence to public service rules and retirement policies.

The exercise also included other cadre movements, with 91 assistant directors promoted to deputy directors, and 82 chief officers elevated to assistant directors. In addition, 2,121 intermediate officers across various departments and grade levels received promotions in recognition of their performance and service.

INEC said the promotions were conducted in line with existing public service guidelines and underscore the commission’s commitment to rewarding merit, dedication and years of service while strengthening its leadership structure ahead of forthcoming electoral engagements.

The commission congratulated all the promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and impartial service as they discharge their duties, especially as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
