Akure Nigeria – Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has directed security agencies to launch an immediate and coordinated operation against suspected kidnappers terrorising residents across the state, officials said on Monday March 2, 2026.
The governor gave the order during a security meeting at the Governor’s Office in Akure, where leaders of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) and other security stakeholders were present. Aiyedatiwa said the spike in kidnappings and other violent crimes in parts of Ondo State was unacceptable and must be tackled decisively to protect lives and property.
“The safety of our people remains my top priority. I have directed all security agencies to act swiftly and in unity to rid our communities of these criminals,” the governor said in a statement issued after the meeting. He urged residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security personnel by providing actionable intelligence.
In recent weeks, several communities in Ondo East, Okitipupa, Akure South and Ifedore Local Government Areas have reported kidnap attempts and attacks on commuters, prompting public outcry and calls for stronger protective measures from the state government.
Aiyedatiwa emphasised that the security agencies must coordinate patrols share intelligence conduct area sweeps and clamp down on hideouts used by criminal groups. He also asked traditional rulers and community leaders to support the operation by encouraging vigilance and quick reporting of suspicious activity.
The governor assured that logistics and necessary resources will be provided to ensure the success of the crackdown and to boost morale among security operatives. He said the government is also exploring longer term strategies to improve community policing and enhance surveillance systems across vulnerable districts.
