Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has forwarded a list of nine commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, officials confirmed on Tuesday March 3, 2026.
The submission of the nominees’ names, made in a Government Special Announcement signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr Emeka Amadi, signals a key step in reconstituting the state’s executive council after months of political tension. Each nominee has been directed to submit required documents including 40 copies of their Curriculum Vitae photocopies of credentials and evidence of tax compliance to the Rivers State House of Assembly complex in Port Harcourt ahead of their screening session.
The nine individuals nominated by Fubara to serve as commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council are: Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams Esq., Mr Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree Esq. and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The Assembly’s move to invite the nominees for documentation and subsequent vetting comes weeks after Fubara dissolved the previous executive council and relieved eight commissioners and all special advisers of their appointments as part of efforts to reset governance after an extended political impasse between the governor and some lawmakers.
Political observers say the screening exercise will help restore normal governance functions and expedite policy implementation in the state’s ministries as confirmed commissioners will provide leadership in key sectors including health, education agriculture and finance.
The House of Assembly is expected to set dates for the screening sessions for each of the nominees in the coming days.
