Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, a government statement confirmed on Tuesday March 3, 2026. The resignation takes effect immediately after Doguwa formally submitted his letter on Monday March 2, 2026, according to state government sources.
In an official statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf commended Doguwa for his dedicated service, loyalty and commitment to advancing government priorities during his tenure in the ministry.
Governor Yusuf recalled that Doguwa previously served as Commissioner for Education, where he was involved in key educational reforms before being reassigned to lead the Ministry of Water Resources. During his time at the water resources agency, notable progress was recorded in rehabilitating facilities and expanding access to clean water in several communities across the state, the statement said.
Describing Doguwa as a disciplined and hardworking public servant, the governor thanked him for his contributions and wished him success in future endeavours beyond public office.
Governor Yusuf also directed that Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, the current Commissioner for Education, oversee the Ministry of Water Resources in the interim while a substantive replacement is appointed or a new portfolio reassignment is made.
The development comes amid ongoing political activity in Kano State as various leaders prepare for upcoming party congresses and administrative adjustments within the government.
