President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, according to official statements from the Presidency on Tuesday March 3, 2026.

In a letter sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu formally conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation as part of a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening fiscal policy and economic management in the run-up to major national economic reforms.

Dr Uzoka-Anite, who has served in multiple principal roles within the administration, will now be redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State in that department. This will be her third portfolio under President Tinubu’s leadership, underscoring her continued involvement in Nigeria’s economic governance.

Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist, accountant and public policy expert from Ikaram-Akoko in Ondo State, previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a group credited with overhauling aspects of Nigeria’s tax system to boost revenue and streamline fiscal operations.

His professional career spans more than two decades, including 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Oyedele also holds a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has completed executive education programmes at international institutions including the London School of Economics Yale University and Harvard Kennedy School.

In addition to his advisory and professional roles, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, giving him both academic and practical expertise in economic and fiscal matters.

The Senate will now begin hearings to consider Oyedele’s nomination as required by law before he can be formally sworn in as minister. Observers say the appointment could have significant implications for Nigeria’s fiscal direction especially as the government pursues reforms aimed at economic diversification and revenue enhancement.
