A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Sepeteri, Oyo State, after allegedly beating his elder brother to death with a heavy rock because he believed the deceased had shot him in a dream, police sources confirm.

According to a statement from the Oyo State Police Command, the suspect, Lateef Suleiman of Alegunlode Compound, reportedly woke up convinced that his 52-year-old brother, Mustapha Amidu, had shot him in his sleep in a dream. Instead of dismissing the dream, Suleiman allegedly approached Mustapha where he was seated and struck him on the head with a rock before fleeing the scene.

The wounded man was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty. Police operatives from the Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters visited the scene and hospital as part of preliminary investigations.

Suleiman was later tracked down and arrested by police officers, and he has confessed to the crime and is cooperating with investigators, the command said. The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.

The police assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently and in accordance with the law.
