Mr Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has assured citizens that implementation of the country’s newly enacted tax laws will be carefully monitored to guarantee transparency fairness and equity, multiple national news outlets report.
Edun made the remarks on Wednesday March 4, 2026 at the signing ceremony of the Presumptive Tax Framework held in Abuja, where the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee and federal government officials formalised guidelines for rolling out the tax reforms.
He emphasised that the new framework is aimed at transitioning from legislation to structured implementation of the tax reforms passed into law in 2025 and 2026, with safeguards designed to protect taxpayers and ensure consistent application across all sectors of the economy.
Edun said the reforms will help create clarity predictability and national coordination in tax administration, and promised that the government will monitor enforcement closely to prevent arbitrary or unfair practices such as unlawful roadside tax collection. He noted that the new approach is also intended to support economic inclusion and formalisation of businesses in both formal and informal sectors.
Officials said the regulations prohibit cash collection and the use of roadblocks to enforce tax payments, and introduce a uniform presumptive tax system for small and informal enterprises. These measures are part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s tax system and build public trust in revenue administration.
