The Governor of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has imposed a 24 hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed communal violence that has led to deaths and rising tension in the area.

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Humeashi Wonosikou. According to the statement the curfew takes immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice as authorities move to restore peace.

Officials said the decision followed fresh attacks and a breakdown of peace in several communities within Lamurde. The government described the violence as unacceptable and warned that anyone found violating the curfew would face arrest and prosecution.

Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew strictly while additional personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order across affected communities. Residents were also urged to cooperate with security operatives and provide useful information that could help bring the crisis under control.

The latest violence is linked to a long running dispute between the Chobo and Bachama communities in the area. The conflict has caused repeated clashes in recent months with dozens of people reportedly killed.

State authorities say the curfew is part of emergency measures aimed at preventing further loss of lives and protecting property while dialogue and security operations continue to restore calm in the troubled region.
