The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has reportedly traced several luxury real estate assets in Egypt to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial impropriety during his time in office.

According to sources familiar with the probe, the anti corruption agency identified at least nine properties in Cairo including three villas and six apartments located in high end residential estates in the Egyptian capital.

Investigators said the villas are located in Arabilla Estate Banafsik Estate and Oriana II in New Cairo while several apartments were traced to Cairo Festival City and Oriana Estate. Property records indicate that villas in some of these areas are valued between one million and 1.3 million dollars while luxury apartments in the district can cost around 500 thousand dollars each.

Sources involved in the investigation claim the properties were acquired between 2021 and 2023 during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of Kaduna State. Authorities say the discovery forms part of a broader probe into alleged financial transactions and the management of public funds during his administration.

The investigation follows earlier actions by the ICPC including the search of the former governor’s residence in Abuja and his detention for questioning in connection with corruption allegations.

El-Rufai has not publicly responded to the latest claims about the Egyptian properties. However he has previously denied allegations of wrongdoing and accused authorities of targeting him because of his political positions.

The probe into the former governor has drawn national attention and could lead to further legal actions depending on the outcome of the investigation by the anti graft agency.
