The Governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi Sule has supervised the distribution of bags of rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to vulnerable residents across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The distribution exercise forms part of a nationwide humanitarian programme by the Dangote Foundation aimed at supporting low income households and easing the burden of rising food prices.
During the exercise the governor warned government officials and community leaders involved in the distribution process not to divert the relief items meant for residents. He stressed that the palliative must reach the intended beneficiaries especially the poor elderly and other vulnerable groups.
Sule said the state government would closely monitor the distribution process to ensure transparency and accountability. According to him any official found diverting the rice or manipulating the distribution process would face strict disciplinary action.
Officials of the state government explained that the relief items would be shared across communities through a structured system designed to reach people who need support the most. The programme is expected to benefit thousands of households across the state.
Governor Sule also commended the Dangote Foundation for the donation describing it as a timely intervention that will help many families cope with the current economic challenges.
Residents who received the rice expressed appreciation to the foundation and the state government saying the support will provide relief for their households.
