Petrol prices in Abuja have reportedly surged to around N1330 per litre at several filling stations as fuel marketers continue to adjust pump prices amid rising supply costs and market pressures.

Checks across parts of the Federal Capital Territory show that some independent filling stations have raised the price of Premium Motor Spirit following recent increases in depot and refinery prices. The development marks another sharp rise in the cost of fuel for motorists and businesses in the city.

Industry observers say the latest increase is linked to rising crude oil prices in the global market and changes in the ex depot price set by local suppliers including the Dangote Refinery. Earlier reports indicated that petrol had already climbed above N1000 per litre in Abuja after multiple price adjustments by marketers.

Retailers say the deregulated petroleum market means pump prices now respond quickly to global crude oil fluctuations as well as exchange rate pressures affecting fuel supply. The surge has triggered concerns among residents who fear that higher transport fares and increased costs of goods and services may follow.

Motorists in Abuja have expressed frustration at the continuous rise in fuel prices noting that the latest increase will put additional pressure on household expenses. Transport operators also warned that the hike may force them to review transport fares across major routes in the city.
