Nigeria’s anti corruption agency the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has reportedly interrogated the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria John Terhemba Tsoho for several hours over a large amount of foreign currency allegedly found in the possession of his wife.

According to sources familiar with the development the questioning followed the interception of the judge’s wife by EFCC operatives while she was travelling to Benue State. Officials reportedly discovered about 160,000 dollars in cash during the encounter and later returned her to Abuja for further inquiries.

Investigators then invited Justice Tsoho for questioning as part of efforts to determine the origin of the money and whether it is connected to any ongoing investigation. The circumstances surrounding the funds and the purpose of the trip have not yet been officially clarified.

The development comes at a time when the Chief Judge is also facing scrutiny from the Code of Conduct Bureau over allegations that he failed to declare some bank accounts during his asset declaration process.

A petition before the bureau reportedly claims that several accounts including some with commercial banks were not listed in the judge’s official declaration submitted in 2024. If investigators establish a case the matter could be referred to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for further legal action.

Justice Tsoho has denied the allegations and maintained that he complied fully with the legal requirements regarding asset declaration. Officials say investigations into the cash discovery and the related claims are still ongoing.
