Three members of the House of Representatives have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during plenary on Wednesday 11 March 2026. The defections were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker Tajudeen Abbas as part of a series of party realignments currently unfolding in the National Assembly.

The lawmakers who switched allegiance to the APC are: Mohammed Audu, representing Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo‑Kola Federal Constituency of Taraba State; Abdullahi El‑Rasheed, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State; and Inuwa Garuba, representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State.

The three defectors cited internal crises within the PDP as a key reason for leaving the party and joining the ruling APC. Analysts say the move adds to a broader trend of defections from the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections, strengthening the APC’s legislative majority in the House of Representatives.

Alongside these defections another lawmaker representing the Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency defected from the Labour Party to the APC. However in a separate development a different member resigned from the PDP to join the Accord Party indicating shifting party alliances among lawmakers.

The Speaker congratulated the defectors and welcomed them into their new party while urging respect for due process as the House updates its records.
