Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by a Norwegian court after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent. The 19‑year‑old, who plays for Molde FK in Norway and has represented Nigeria’s U‑20 team, received the verdict on Tuesday 10 March 2026 from the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court. The court also ordered him to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.

The case stems from an incident reported to police in April 2025, and prosecutors had sought a custodial sentence during the trial. Daga’s lawyer Astrid Bolstad told reporters that the player maintains his innocence and insists the encounter was consensual. She confirmed that a legal appeal will be filed, meaning the sentence may not be enforceable until the appeal process is completed.

In response to the court ruling Molde FK announced that Daga will be excluded from matchday squads while the legal process continues. Club officials described the situation as “very difficult” and said they will handle it with respect for all parties involved. The sentence and its fallout have drawn widespread attention, particularly in Nigerian football circles where Daga was seen as one of the country’s promising young talents.
