The Kwara State Government has handed over industrial cassava flour processing machines to residents of Owode Oja in Asa Local Government Area as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and improve rural livelihoods. The intervention is expected to increase the scale of garri production in the community while creating employment opportunities for local residents.

The machines were presented to the community on behalf of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State. Officials said the initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to support agricultural value chains and empower rural producers.
Speaking during the handover the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Rafiu Ajakaye said the machines were provided to help local producers expand their operations and improve productivity. He explained that the equipment includes a cassava grater capable of processing up to 1.5 tonnes per day as well as a dewatering fryer and a cassava mash sifter used in garri production.
According to him the government is committed to supporting grassroots economic development and encouraging self reliance among rural communities. He added that experts will train members of the community on how to properly operate and maintain the machines to ensure sustainable use.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the initiative describing it as a major boost for local businesses especially for women involved in cassava processing. The Baale of Owode Oja Mallam Kuranga Yakub said the new equipment will reduce production time increase output and raise incomes for families in the area.
Officials also noted that the state government is constructing a 23 kilometre rural road under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project to help farmers transport their produce to markets more easily. Authorities believe the combination of improved infrastructure and modern processing equipment will strengthen agricultural activities and stimulate rural economic growth in the community.
