The Governor of Siminalayi Fubara has expressed support for the decision of the Rivers State House of Assembly to conduct a thorough screening of commissioner nominees, describing the process as necessary for effective governance and accountability.Speaking during the swearing in of newly confirmed commissioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the governor said the rigorous legislative screening had already prepared the appointees for the responsibilities ahead. He noted that the exercise demonstrated the importance of competence and integrity in public service.

The Assembly recently screened nine nominees forwarded by the governor for appointment into the state executive council. After the exercise, five candidates were confirmed while four others were rejected following deliberations by lawmakers.

Those confirmed as commissioners include Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth and Amairigha Edward Hart. During the ceremony the oath of office and allegiance was administered by the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Rivers State.

Governor Fubara stated that the screening process carried out by the Assembly was one of the most demanding he had seen, adding that those who passed the exercise had demonstrated the capacity to serve the people of the state effectively. He told the commissioners that having passed the scrutiny of lawmakers they were now expected to deliver excellent service to the citizens of Rivers State.

The governor also urged the new commissioners to work collaboratively and remain focused on implementing policies that would accelerate development across the state. He emphasised that the success of his administration depends on the dedication and performance of members of the executive council.

Political observers say the development signals a renewed effort to strengthen cooperation between the executive arm and the state legislature after months of political tension in the state.
