President Bola Tinubu on Thursday presided over a high-level security meeting with the nation’s service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what marked the first such gathering since Tunji Disu assumed office as Inspector-General of Police.

The meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, was held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa. Security chiefs reportedly arrived without their usual official vehicles, making it difficult to identify them on arrival. They later departed the premises around 5:10 pm after extensive discussions with the President.

Journalists were able to confirm the identities of the service chiefs and the IGP as they exited the forecourt following the meeting.

The security session comes amid growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, especially following the recent killings of senior military officers in different operational theatres.

Within the past week, the military reportedly lost at least three commanding officers who were leading forward operating bases. The incidents occurred during a wave of attacks targeting security formations and personnel, particularly in the North-East where insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have intensified assaults on military positions.

One of the major incidents involved an attack on Ngoshe community in Borno State, where several residents were reportedly abducted. Other attacks were recorded in communities including Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok, all within the state.

The renewed wave of violence has prompted strong reactions from both President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who have pledged decisive action to crush the insurgency.

Speaking during an Iftar dinner with service chiefs on March 6, Tinubu reassured the armed forces that his administration remains committed to defeating terrorism in the country.

“Nigeria will defeat terrorism despite these attacks. We will not bow to insurgents,” the President said.

Similarly, Vice President Shettima, in a statement issued by his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, declared that the Federal Government would confront the insurgents with overwhelming force until the crisis is brought to an end.

Thursday’s meeting also marked the first formal security engagement involving Disu and the service chiefs since his appointment as IGP on February 28, 2026, following the resignation of his predecessor.

Although details of the deliberations were not officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report, sources indicated that discussions likely focused on the recent spike in attacks on security personnel, the protection of vulnerable communities in the North-East, and improved coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, President Tinubu also summoned the Director-General of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Dr. Olubunmi Kuku, to the Presidential Villa on Thursday for the second time within a week.
