The Lagos State Government has announced plans to ban children from roaming the streets during school hours as part of efforts to tackle truancy and improve school attendance across the state.

Officials said the initiative is designed to ensure that school age children remain in classrooms during learning hours rather than engaging in street trading or other activities that interfere with their education.

According to government authorities, enforcement teams will work with school administrators community leaders and security agencies to identify children found outside during school hours and return them to school.

The policy is also expected to target child hawking which remains a concern in several parts of Lagos. Authorities say many children are often forced into street trading during school hours which negatively affects their education and exposes them to various risks.

The government explained that the decision forms part of broader education reforms aimed at strengthening discipline in schools improving learning outcomes and protecting the welfare of children.

Parents and guardians are also expected to take responsibility for ensuring that their children attend school regularly and avoid activities that disrupt their education.

Officials say the policy will be implemented alongside public awareness campaigns to encourage compliance and highlight the importance of education for children across the state.
