The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 74 year old man at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after he was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle 11 kilograms of cocaine.
According to the anti drug agency, the suspect was intercepted during routine screening at the airport while preparing to board an international flight. NDLEA officials said the illicit drug was discovered after a detailed search of the suspect’s luggage.
Authorities explained that the cocaine was carefully concealed in the baggage but was detected by operatives who had been monitoring passengers and cargo at the airport as part of ongoing anti trafficking operations.
The agency said the suspect was taken into custody for further interrogation and investigation. Officials also revealed that efforts are underway to uncover possible accomplices and determine the origin and intended destination of the drugs.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance at airports seaports and land borders across the country in order to disrupt drug trafficking networks.
The agency also warned that individuals involved in illegal drug activities will continue to face strict enforcement measures regardless of age or status.
