Members of the Iran Women’s National Football Team are preparing to depart for Oman following days of uncertainty surrounding the squad after the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

Reports indicate that the team will travel from Kuala Lumpur to Oman as part of arrangements coordinated with football authorities and diplomatic officials. The move comes after several players who had earlier sought asylum abroad reversed their decisions and rejoined the team.

The situation began after Iran’s elimination from the tournament in Australia. Following the competition, seven members of the delegation initially sought asylum citing fears for their safety amid rising tensions in Iran.

However, in the days that followed, most of those players withdrew their asylum requests and decided to rejoin the national squad. Officials confirmed that a number of them have already reunited with teammates and are preparing to leave with the rest of the delegation.

The incident attracted global attention after some players refused to sing the national anthem before a match during the tournament. The gesture was interpreted by some observers as a form of protest during a period of political tension involving Iran.

International football bodies and human rights groups have called for close monitoring of the players’ welfare. Officials from the Asian football governing authorities said the safety of the athletes remains a priority as the situation develops.

Despite the controversy, the team is expected to continue its journey to Oman while authorities monitor the circumstances surrounding the players and their future participation in international football.
