Security operatives at the Akure Airport have arrested suspected bandits during a joint security operation carried out at the airport.

The suspects were apprehended by personnel of the Aviation Security unit of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), also known as AVSEC, in collaboration with other security agencies operating within the airport.

According to security sources, the suspects were intercepted after intelligence reports alerted authorities to suspicious movements around the airport environment. Aviation security officials immediately launched an operation which led to the arrest of the suspected bandits.

Authorities said the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to determine their mission and whether they have links with criminal networks operating in the region.

The swift action by airport security personnel has been praised as a major step in preventing potential security threats within the aviation sector.

Officials also reaffirmed that security measures have been strengthened across airports in Nigeria to ensure the safety of passengers airport staff and critical aviation infrastructure.

Security agencies have assured the public that anyone found attempting to compromise the safety of the nation’s airports will face the full weight of the law.
