The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has summoned 94 candidates and several tertiary institutions over alleged irregularities uncovered during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination process.

According to the examination body, the affected candidates are being investigated for various infractions including presentation of fake certificates and inconsistencies discovered during screening and admission procedures.

JAMB said the move is part of its ongoing effort to sanitise Nigeria’s admission system and ensure that only qualified candidates gain entry into higher institutions. The board noted that some institutions are also under scrutiny for allegedly aiding or overlooking irregular admissions.

Officials disclosed that the candidates have been directed to appear before a disciplinary panel where their cases will be reviewed. The board warned that anyone found guilty could face serious consequences including withdrawal of admission and possible blacklisting from future examinations.

The examination body reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity in the admission process and urged institutions to strictly adhere to guidelines. It also advised candidates to avoid any form of malpractice including the use of forged documents.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the development saying it will help restore confidence in the admission system and discourage fraudulent practices across the sector in Nigeria.

The board added that investigations are ongoing and more candidates or institutions may be invited if further irregularities are discovered.
