The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs in Kano ahead of the Sallah celebrations, in an operation officials say has disrupted a major distribution network.

According to the agency, the seizure was made during a targeted intelligence driven operation aimed at curbing the circulation of illegal substances during the festive period. NDLEA operatives reportedly tracked the movement of the consignment before successfully intercepting it.

The agency said the operation forms part of its broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and safety especially during periods of increased social activity such as Sallah.

Officials added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the network. The NDLEA also hinted that more arrests may follow as efforts continue to dismantle the entire supply chain.

The agency warned individuals involved in drug trafficking to desist from such activities, stressing that enforcement operations have been intensified across the country.

Security analysts say such seizures are critical in reducing the availability of illicit substances and preventing associated crimes during festive periods.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on drug networks and ensuring communities remain safe across Nigeria.
