Suspected bandits have attacked an immigration post in Niger State, killing an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service and making away with rifles.

According to security sources, the attackers stormed the facility in a coordinated assault, overwhelming personnel on duty before carrying out the attack. The slain officer was identified as one of the operatives stationed at the post at the time of the incident.

Witnesses said the assailants operated for several minutes before fleeing the scene with weapons seized from the post. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the vulnerability of security installations in parts of the state.

Authorities have since deployed additional security personnel to the area while efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers and recover the stolen rifles.

Officials condemned the attack and assured residents that measures are being taken to strengthen security around critical government facilities.

Security analysts say the incident underscores the persistent threat posed by armed groups in parts of north central Nigeria, calling for improved intelligence and rapid response mechanisms.
