The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that it has disbursed over ₦206 billion to more than one million students across Nigeria, in a major push to expand access to higher education.

According to the fund, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s effort to support students through interest free education loans, easing the financial burden on families and increasing enrollment in tertiary institutions.

NELFUND officials stated that the disbursement covers tuition fees and in some cases upkeep allowances, ensuring that beneficiaries can focus on their studies without financial pressure.

The agency noted that the scheme has recorded significant uptake nationwide, with students from various universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education benefiting from the programme.

Education stakeholders have described the development as a positive step toward improving access and reducing dropout rates, particularly among students from low income backgrounds.

NELFUND also assured that the loan process is transparent and accessible, encouraging eligible students to apply through its official platform.

The fund reiterated its commitment to sustaining the programme and expanding its reach as more students seek financial support for their education.
