Former international footballer Harrison Jalla has called on Nigeria’s anti corruption agencies to take decisive action against alleged corruption in sports administration, urging them to draw lessons from a recent high profile conviction in Congo.

Jalla specifically challenged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to act swiftly in tackling financial misconduct within Nigerian football.

His remarks follow the conviction of Jean Guy Blaise Mayolas, President of the Congo Football Federation, who was reportedly jailed alongside his wife, son, and two other officials over charges including money laundering, embezzlement, and forgery.

Jalla argued that the development in Congo demonstrates that football administrators can be held accountable when institutions are willing to act. He stressed that similar enforcement in Nigeria would help restore credibility and transparency in sports governance.

According to him, corruption within football administration has long hindered the growth of the game in Nigeria, and decisive intervention by anti graft agencies is necessary to rebuild trust among stakeholders.

He also urged authorities to investigate financial dealings within football bodies and ensure that those found guilty face the full weight of the law.

Analysts say the call adds to growing pressure on regulatory and enforcement institutions to extend anti corruption efforts beyond politics and into the sports sector.
