Cuba has declared its readiness to defend itself against any potential military action from the United States, as tensions between both countries continue to rise.

Speaking over the weekend, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said the country remains prepared for any form of aggression, even though it does not consider an armed conflict likely.

He noted that Cuba has historically maintained a posture of national mobilisation in the face of external threats, stressing that while war may not be imminent, the country cannot afford to be unprepared.

The remarks follow recent statements by Donald Trump, which have heightened tensions, alongside an ongoing oil blockade that has further strained Cuba’s economy.

Despite the rhetoric, Cuban authorities dismissed suggestions that discussions with Washington include plans for a change in leadership. De Cossio insisted that any form of regime change involving President Miguel Diaz-Canel is not part of ongoing engagements between the two nations.

Meanwhile, a senior U.S. military official responsible for operations in Latin America clarified that there are currently no plans or exercises aimed at invading Cuba or taking control of the island.

The situation underscores continued diplomatic strain between both countries, even as talks persist under growing political and economic pressure.
