Governor Seyi Makinde has mandated the advisory council in Oyo State to interact with and assess aspirants seeking the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 election.

The council, chaired by Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), has been tasked with engaging all interested aspirants and submitting recommendations as part of efforts to sustain the administration’s “Omituntun” development agenda.

The initiative is designed to give all contenders a fair opportunity to present their ideas and vision for the state while ensuring a transparent and inclusive process.

Reports indicate that invitation letters have already been sent out, with several aspirants appearing before the council. Among those who have participated are Adedeji Olajide, Nureni Adeniran, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Debo Akande, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.

Clarifying the exercise, Ayorinde explained that the process is not a formal screening but an interactive session aimed at understanding the plans and capabilities of each aspirant.He emphasised that the council does not have the authority to disqualify candidates, noting that its role is strictly advisory.

According to him, the goal is to avoid imposition and ensure that whoever emerges as the party’s candidate is widely accepted.

Ayorinde added that about nine aspirants have already engaged with the council, with more expected to participate. He also expressed confidence that the governor will consult widely with stakeholders, including party leaders and traditional rulers, before a final candidate is chosen.
