Kylian Mbappé has dismissed claims that Real Madrid’s medical staff examined the wrong knee while treating his injury, insisting that the club’s management of his recovery was clear and properly coordinated.
The controversy arose after media reports suggested a partial ligament tear in his left knee went undetected in December because scans were allegedly done on his healthy right knee. Mbappé played three matches before the injury was formally diagnosed as a knee sprain on December 31.
Speaking on international duty with France, Mbappé said, “The information that [Madrid] examined the wrong knee is not true. Perhaps I bear some indirect responsibility because when you don’t communicate fully, it leaves room for interpretation.” He confirmed that rehabilitation was closely supervised by Madrid’s medical team, even during his trip to Paris for a second opinion.
Mbappé sustained the injury on December 7 against Celta Vigo but still featured in matches against Alavés, Talavera, and Sevilla before the sprain was confirmed. He has since returned to action in both the Champions League second leg against Manchester City and the weekend derby against Atlético Madrid.
“I focus on the present and the immediate future. Right now, I feel good, especially with both my knees, which is important to me,” he added. Mbappé expressed readiness to play against Brazil in France’s upcoming friendly.
The forward emphasised that false reports regarding his injury should not distract from his form or the team’s performance.
