A tragic incident has been reported in Kano where a woman, Hafsat Yusuf, died hours after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

She was said to have delivered five babies—three boys and two girls—through a Caesarean section on Wednesday afternoon. However, her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed that she passed away in the early hours of Thursday, around 1 a.m., describing the loss as deeply painful for the family.

Despite the mother’s death, all five newborns are alive and currently receiving intensive medical care at the hospital. Medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition to ensure their survival and proper development.

The husband also revealed that the birth marked his wife’s ninth delivery, making the situation both remarkable and heartbreaking. Meanwhile, the Kano State Ministry of Health has assured that the state government will take full responsibility for the medical care of the babies.

The development has drawn sympathy from residents, as many describe the situation as a mixture of joy and sorrow for the affected family.
